This holiday season, Star of Hope Mission’s Extended Services program is excited to welcome back our cherished Christmas Adopt-a-Family initiative. As we continue to provide hope, support, and resources to homeless, formerly homeless, and at-risk households across Houston and its surrounding communities, we warmly invite Sponsors to help us spread glad tidings to those facing economic challenges.
With a growing need for assistance this festive season, we are reaching out to generous sponsors like you to make a meaningful impact in the lives of these individuals and families:
Homeless Families: We work closely with local schools to identify homeless families and unaccompanied youth/minors. Since 2019, we’ve expanded our program to include this often-overlooked group. These families are currently living in temporary arrangements, such as doubling up with family or friends or staying in unsuitable living conditions.
Former Star of Hope Program Families: The heart of Glad Tidings lies with our program graduates. Since 1993, our Sponsors have been “adopting” families who have successfully transitioned out of our shelters and are rebuilding their lives after experiencing homelessness. This tradition continues today, with many of these families being single-parent households, primarily single mothers, raising children of all ages.
Outreach families: Several years ago, we broadened Glad Tidings registration to include at-risk families who meet specific criteria. This group encompasses single parents with children, grandmothers raising their grandchildren, single fathers with children, and two-parent families facing economic difficulties. This is the largest group of Recipient Families, particularly given the hardships from economic downturns, natural disasters, and the lingering effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. (Please note that these families go through a comprehensive screening process to determine eligibility and need.)

While we know Christmas is more than just exchanging presents, giving and receiving gifts remains a cherished part of the season. A gift shows that someone cares, loves, and has taken the time to make a difference. While toys and fun items are delightful, clothing, household essentials, and personal care items are equally precious.
As a Sponsor, you have the special opportunity to share the gift of Glad Tidings! Our Adopt-a-Family Christmas program allows you to connect with a family, offer encouragement, and bring the light of Christ into their lives. Sponsors personally deliver Christmas gifts to the families they support.
