Denai was a proud stay-at-home mom for over two decades in Pennsylvania. When her marriage dissolved, the event was traumatic and life-altering. “Despite facing a divorce and uncertainty, I chose to pray and worship instead of succumbing to anger or despair. During this challenging time, I felt compelled by God to make a change, so I packed up my daughters and moved to Houston, even though I did not fully comprehend the reasons behind it.”
Denai’s faith was being tested, but she trusted God’s plan for her and her three daughters, ages 9, 16 and 19, as she embraced this new path in an unknown city. Once in Houston, it was through God’s grace and divine guidance that she and her children found Star of Hope.
Star of Hope proved to be the place her family needed. At the Women and Family Development Center, they found peace, quiet and safety. Here, she recovered from the trauma of leaving her home and ending her marriage.
At Star of Hope, she found support from her case managers, staff members, volunteers and supportive friends. Denai is now building a new life grounded in Christ, whom she is dependent on.
She is now part of the Workforce Development program. She has found full-time employment at a local eatery, where she is learning how to become a Baker. All the while, she is building a new life grounded in Christ.
