Amber couldn’t remember the last time she had eaten a meal or taken a shower. She’d been awake for days, high on methamphetamine and smoking cigarettes in a tiny, dingy motel room. Perhaps the worst thing was the fact that Amber wasn’t alone. Her 18-month-old son Kaden was there, watching his mother fall apart.
One morning in May of last year, Child Protective Services and the local police knocked on Amber’s door. “They allowed me to call my parents to come get my son,” she remembers. “Watching him walk away with them was the hardest thing I have ever had to do in my life. Almost equally devastating was facing the two most important people in my life and letting them see how I had been living.” Amber admitted everything to the police about her drug abuse. “They asked me if I was willing to get help. I was!”
Amber did seek help at a local treatment center, and 90 days later she arrived at Star of Hope Mission. Not only was she clean and sober, but she had accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. As soon as Amber enrolled in the New Hope Program, she celebrated a joyful reunion with Kaden. Because of her excellent progress, Amber regained full custody of her son!
“New Hope has taught me so much about my disease,” Amber says. “It has humbled me and enabled me to pinpoint those areas in my life that need a serious overhaul.” Through Christian counseling, spiritual guidance and lots of hard work, Amber is regaining control over her life. She also has the chance to mend relationships within her family, and be a good mother to her child. This miraculous transformation just wouldn’t be possible without your help!
“I do not know, nor do I want to think about where I would be today [without Star of Hope],” Amber says. “From here I plan to move on to Personal Development and Career Development in order to ensure my future success.” Amber knows she has a lot of growing left to do, but because of the Lord’s provision through you, she looks forward to a bright future with her son. Thank you for helping to keep this family together!
