It is back-to-school time for the children at Star of Hope! The first day of classes can be an exciting time, but it can also be stressful for those parents without the means to buy proper school supplies or even the simplest things like new uniforms or the right-sized shoe. Thankfully, we have the support of our donors!
Before heading off to school this year, our children and teens received brand-new shoes for the year, thanks to Trees of Hope and new backpacks filled with school supplies thanks to Hilcorp, Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church, Third Coast Bank and Second Baptist School. That is the kind of experience we hope to create for the children and teenagers in our care. Before coming to Star of Hope, the back-to-school experience, for so many of them, was not filled with hope and excitement. They may not even have been attending school regularly because of the challenges they faced in their home environments: parents who were not capable of taking care of them; moving from place to place, school to school; possibly even living in their cars.
When these children are at the Star of Hope, many of them are experiencing stability for the first time in their lives. While their parents are recovering from the issues that made them homeless – restoring their relationship with God and learning how to care for themselves and their families – their children are being taken care of by staff members who love them and are ready to help them every step of the way.
Thanks to your support – both financially and in prayer – this school year provides a new opportunity for our students. The children at Star of Hope can head off to school with new supplies and an even greater outlook on life. We look forward to the many achievements our children and parents will have this year. Thank you!
