We are gearing up for Back-to-School! Preparing for a new school year has been a different experience, but we are working to keep this school year as normal as possible for children at the Star of Hope. When homeless children enter the new school year with little to no school supplies and uniforms, they have it the hardest. Our parents struggle to take their children back-to-school shopping, but with the support of our donors, children at Star of Hope don’t have to start school with old, worn-out uniforms and shoes that no longer fit properly.
Our children received brand new shoes and backpacks filled with school supplies and school uniforms! They were able to individually try on and choose shoes from DICK’S Sporting Goods that were funded by Trees of Hope Vice President Sara Black and Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation. After selecting their shoes, the children enjoyed food and refreshments provided by Raising Cane’s.
Also, Chevron partnered with The Astros Foundation to create and donate school backpacks for our WFDC residents attending kindergarten through fifth grade. They did it in style with the Astros’ mascot Orbit leading a parade of decorated cars full of backpacks, honking, and cheering! Orbit, wearing a large mask, posed with the children as he presented them with the school supply goodies. The event ended with a generous check donation from the two partners to Star of Hope!
I am truly thankful for the outpouring of support for our children. Due to COVID-19, a lot has changed. But the hearts of many have not! Because of your support – both financial and in prayer – Star of Hope can provide these children with an environment that gives them an opportunity to succeed … and be excited about the first day of school. We ask that you please continue to help us serve their needs throughout the school year. Thank you for all you do for Star of Hope and the precious children we serve each day!
