A new school year is beginning across the city! That excited feeling of starting school is special for so many of usꟷour own memories of picking out school supplies and shoes for the year, and for some of us, sharing that same excitement with our children and grandchildren when they start school. However, for homeless children, that experience can be quite different.
Many children at Star of Hope have lacked stability in their lives. Attending school becomes difficult due to the challenges they face in their home environments: moving from place to place, school to school, and possibly even living in their cars. A new pair of shoes can boost self-esteem and bring them confidence moving into the new school year! Confidence they so greatly need to successfully start the school year.
But thanks to your support throughout the year, and with the help of Trees of Hope and others this week, our children and teens will receive brand-new shoes and backpacks filled with school supplies. Trees of Hope blessed the younger children with new shoes and fun crafts from Raising Cane’s and CrafTex. The teens were also given the opportunity to shop for their own pair of shoes at Academy Sports + Outdoors followed by a special lunch at Chick-fil-A. Also, our Children and Youth Ministry team held a back-to-school party where they distributed backpacks to the children!
The children at Star of Hope can head off to school with new supplies and confidence because of your support. Thank you!
