This month marks the one-year anniversary since Star of Hope moved all its women and family services to the Women and Family Development Center located at Star of Hope’s Cornerstone Community® transformational campus. It also marks the one-year anniversary since Hurricane Harvey swept through Houston. Both these events occurred within days of each other.
Today, there are many Houstonians who are still dealing with loss from the storm, people like Mary who came to the Star of Hope three weeks after Hurricane Harvey hit. By the grace of God our new Women and Family Development Center had not sustained any damage from the storm, and we were able to welcome Mary and hundreds of others like her.
After her apartment flooded Mary stayed at the NRG Stadium for three weeks before finding her way to Star of Hope. She came seeking temporary shelter but she found so much more … a deep encounter with Jesus Christ!
Mary enrolled in our Biblical Counseling program where she experienced the Gospel first hand and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She said it was “eye-opening to learn exactly what the Gospel is.” As a result, she has a new-found desire to share the Gospel and help others in their time of need, just like she was helped in hers.
But for the storm, Mary would not have come to Star of Hope. But for all of YOU, Mary would not have had a place to find shelter from the storm and develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
We are so grateful for all that God does for this mission every day, and we are so grateful to all of you for your support.
You are a blessing to all here at Star of Hope!
