The season of Thanksgiving and joy is here! Each year November brings the holiday season, with our celebration of Thanksgiving this month and then the celebration of Jesus’ birth in December at Christmas. I don’t know about you, but this is my favorite time of the year! The holidays are full of time with family and friends, and everyone seems to slow down and show thankfulness during the holidays.
Our residents pause in the midst of their storms to acknowledge, just as we all do, the grace of God in our lives, and the many blessings we have received. One of the blessings is a lovely organization called Homemade Hope. Homemade Hope founder, Blair Bentley, is a longtime Star of Hope Mission volunteer. Blair started Homemade Hope to teach homeless children and teens how to cook, and she strives to ultimately bring them hope and confidence.
Last week, Blair and her Homemade Hope team stopped by our facility to serve our residents a delicious home-cooked Thanksgiving meal, cooked by the children. It was a true joy to have Homemade Hope fellowship with our residents and bring smiles to their faces as they enjoyed an early Thanksgiving dinner, as they sat together as a family. This thoughtful event was such a great success and our residents left feeling appreciated, important, and most importantly thankful!
God has allowed Star of Hope Mission to be a safe haven for many who are broken and need a second chance and new hope with Christ in their lives. I am truly thankful for our wonderful supporters like you, who give our residents a reason to be thankful! We have an amazing Homemade Hope podcast I would love for you to hear. Blair has a recipe for hope and shares how her relationship with Star of Hope and desire to serve led her to start this program.
It is by God’s grace and your generous gifts that we are able to serve so many of Houston’s homeless. Thank you! Wishing you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving!
